How, When, Where To Recycle Christmas Trees In Smyrna, Vinings

Smyrna and Vinings residents can start recycling their live Christmas trees now through next weekend.

SMYRNA-VININGS, GA — As Christmas comes and goes, you may wonder when is the best time to put out your live Christmas tree on the curb. Depending on how early you got your tree, it may be starting to dry out.

Here are a few options for Smyrna and Vinings residents to recycle their live Christmas trees now through next Saturday, Jan. 8:

Keep Smyrna Beautiful, an affiliate of the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, is once again participating in the annual "Bring One for the Chipper" live Christmas tree recycling program.

Smyrna residents can bring their live, undecorated Christmas trees to The Home Depot at 2450 Cumberland Parkway SE in Vinings anytime from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 8 for recycling. For more information, visit keepsmyrnabeautiful.com/bring-one-for-the-chipper.

Additionally, Keep Cobb Beautiful is also participating in the live tree recycling program. If you can't make it to the one-day event in the Smyrna-Vinings area, residents can bring their live Christmas trees — again stripped of all decorations — to the following Cobb locations anytime through Jan. 8 to be recycled. No "flocked" trees will be accepted:

    • 2350 Dallas Highway, Marietta
    • 4101 Roswell Road NE, Marietta
    • 3605 Sandy Plains Road, Marietta
    • 1655 Shiloh Road, Kennesaw
    • 449 Roberts Court NW, Kennesaw
    • 1062 Richard Sailors Parkway, Powder Springs
    • 1200 East-West Connector, Austell
    • 3355 Cobb Parkway, Acworth
  • Fullers Park, 3499 Robinson Road, Marietta

Since its inception, the program has recycled 6 million Christmas trees statewide. Mulch from the trees has been used for playgrounds, local government beautification projects and residents' yards. To receive free mulch from the trees, email keepcobbbeautiful@cobbcounty.org.

Big John's Christmas Trees will also provide tree recycling and removal services for varying prices depending on the tree size:

  • Nine feet or less: $65
  • Nine feet to 10 feet: $75
  • All trees over 10 feet tall will be individually priced

Only cash, Venmo or CashApp are accepted, and the cut-off date for removal and recycling is Monday, Jan. 10, 2022. Call, text or email Big John's Christmas Trees at 404-333-2834 or bigjohnstreeremoval@gmail.com.

Smyrna residents can also take approved holiday items to the Smyrna Recycling Center during operating hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, as well as from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. The following holiday items will be accepted:

  • Wrapping paper without foil or glitter
  • Christmas lights
  • Electronics
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Tissue paper
  • Holiday cards
  • Cooking oil
  • Pie tins

The National Fire Protection Association recommends taking your Christmas tree outside after Christmas or when the tree is dried out, as dried-out trees can create a fire hazard. Dried-out trees should not be left inside a home or garage or leaning against a home.
