  1. Gerry Miller, a seasoned veteran of Cobb County's election office, has stepped out of retirement to become interim director for the county's Board of Elections and Registration, as confirmed by county officials. Miller's appointment follows the retirement of Janine Eveler, who served the county in various capacities for 18 years, including 12 years as the elections board supervisor. While the county embarks on a national search for a permanent elections director, officials express their gratitude and confidence in Miller, expecting his strong leadership to steer the team effectively during this interim period. 2. Smyrna's Mayor Derek Norton is slated to present the State of the City address on Wednesday, Jul. 26, at the Smyrna Community Center, commencing at 5:30 p.m. Prospective attendees are informed that pre-registration is compulsory to secure a place at the event. A registration link is readily available for those interested in joining the discourse. You may watch it live on this page on Jul. 26. (City of Smyrna, GA Government via Facebook)
  3. A new food bank, due to open by end-July at 1605 Austell Road, Cobb County, is poised to offer vital support to families in the Fair Oaks communities, where resources fall short of demand. Kyle Waide, President and CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, stated the location was deliberately chosen to serve the large Hispanic population in the area, with around 700 families expected to benefit weekly from the culturally relevant food options provided.
