Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. Two men have been indicted on murder charges in separate Cobb County shootings. Peter Lampley has been accused of killing a man in January outside of Taco Mac at the Parkway Pointe Shopping Center. Larry Miller was found shot multiple times after Lampley allegedly fired the gun at the victim while he was inside his vehicle and then continued to chase and shoot at him as he fled from the car. In a separate case out of Vinings, Deandra Benson has been charged with murdering a man on the 3700 block of Allegretto Circle. Timothy Bennett had suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and had been taken to the hospital where he later died. Benson was still at home when officers arrived and arrested him. 2. A full list of road work and lane closure information for Cobb County has been released by the Cobb DOT for the week of Saturday, Apr. 22, to Friday, Apr. 28. There will be a total of six different projects happening throughout the week, including major interstate I-75 in both northbound and southbound directions. Pebblebrook Circle will be completely closed for school construction. The county will be doing a variety of projects, such as widening roads, adding sidewalks, and other routine maintenance during the week. A list of relevant lane closures has also been posted detailing the scale of closure, times they will be closed, and for how many days. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. At least 50 people have been displaced after an apartment fire in Cobb County. At 11:15 p.m., the fire department received a call from multiple residents about an apartment fire at Lake Crossing Apartment Homes in nearby Austell. The crew quickly worked to extinguish the fire and make sure the hotspots were out. The apartment managers and Red Cross have accounted for all the individuals who were displaced during the fire. As of Friday, the cause of the fire is unknown and still being investigated. (WSB Atlanta)
