Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna-Vinings:

  1. A 29-year-old Cobb County mother was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to charges of malice murder, aggravated assault, and concealing the death of her infant. The body of 19-month-old Faheem Cooper was found in the Chattahoochee River by Cobb County Fire Department employees at Paces Mill Park on Jun. 29, 2021. After the news broke, 29-year-old Breyanla Cooper contacted authorities, claiming her son was kidnapped; however, investigations revealed no evidence of such an incident. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Approximately 30 community members attended a public workshop at Connection Pointe Church on Jul. 18 to offer their insights on the new South Cobb Transit Center's location and amenities. The workshop was part of the CobbForward Transportation Plan for 2050, which is also considering relocating the Marietta and Cumberland Transit Centers. According to Senior Transit Planner Scott Brown of Arcadus, the South Cobb Transit Center aims to bolster service dependability while also offering improved amenities. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. Calling all families: Emerge City will be hosting a Back-to-School Free School Supplies event at the Smyrna Community Center next Sunday, Jul. 30. Those interested can reserve their supplies online prior to the event, or attend the community fair in person from 11:30 a.m. onward. (Patch)
