  1. Municipal elections in five of Cobb County's seven cities are set for November, featuring 35 candidates and four incumbent mayors seeking re-election. The nonpartisan elections will be conducted by Cobb County, with early voting starting from Oct. 16 to Nov. 3, and a possible runoff on Dec. 5. Among the incumbent mayors running again are Smyrna's Derek Norton, Austell's Ollie Clemons, and Powder Springs' Al Thurmon, while Kennesaw's Derek Easterling is running unopposed. 2. An investigation is underway by Cobb County Police Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P) for a hit-and-run collision that took place on Smyrna Powder Spring Road at Vineyard Way on Aug. 26 at 1:53 p.m. The incident involved a black moped operated by Luis Alfonso Dominquez Cervantes, 31, traveling east on Smyrna Powder Springs Road. A vehicle turned left from Vineyard Way, causing the moped to skid and overturn. The vehicle ran over the moped and rider and then fled the scene. The hit-and-run vehicle, possibly a Jeep, is being sought by authorities and may be abandoned or parked nearby. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact investigators at 770-499-3987. (Cobb County Police Department via Facebook)
  3. The Cobb & Douglas Health Foundation for Safe Kids Cobb County has received a $5,000 grant from the Capital City Bank Group Foundation. The grant will support infant safe sleep education and equipment initiatives in Cobb County, including distributing portable cribs to families in need of a safe sleep surface for their infants. Safe Kids Cobb County, established in 1991, aims to reduce unintentional injuries among children, with a focus on infant safe sleep education due to sleep-related deaths being a leading cause of preventable infant deaths in the county.
