Car Crash Caused Smyrna Power Outage

A vehicle crashed into a transformer Wednesday night, causing a widespread power outage.

Over 1,000 Smyrna residents were without power Wednesday night after a car crashed during heavy rains.

Smyrna police spokesman Louis Defense said that a single vehicle crashed into a transformer in the vicinity of Spring Road and Village Parkway, causing the power loss.

A Georgia Power outage map showed 1,003 of their customers in the area were without power as of 11:50 p.m. Wednesday.

“A vehicle accident has caused an outage in your area,” Georgia Power said regarding the incident. “We apologize for any inconvenience and we are working to restore power.”

Power had been restored to the area as of early Thursday morning.
