  1. The Marietta Fire Department rescued a person who fell 20-30 feet down a crack in a parking garage at the nearby Battery Atlanta. The incident occurred at the Yellow Deck, and the opening the victim fell through was only two feet wide. First responders were able to access the opening, stabilize the patient, administer pain medication, and create a rescue harness for the victim. The victim's identity and condition have not yet been released. (WSBTV)
  2. In case you missed it, the Committee to Honor Fanny Williams has been making progress on the Fanny Williams Legacy Project. For the past year, the committee has been considering designs for projects to honor Williams, who was a beloved cook and activist. The committee has narrowed the field to four finalists, whose designs are on display this week at Smyrna City Hall. The designs will be available at Smyrna Library from May 6 - May 12, or you can view the finalists online and leave a comment by visiting this link. (City of Smyrna, GA Government via Facebook)
  3. Down the road, the Mableton Parkway Trail is making progress. This trail will be a connector between the Chattahoochee RiverLands Project and the Silver Comet Trail. It will also provide cycling and pedestrian access between southern Mableton and businesses on Floyd Road. The portion of Phase 1 that includes a multi-use trail on the west side of the road has been completed, although the sidewalk on the east side is still in progress. Phase 2 is set to begin this summer with construction bids. (Cobb County Courier)
  4. It's time to play in the dirt at the Cliff Jordan Education Center! On May 13, the center is hosting a free Community Gardening Class. Attendees will learn about irrigation for raised beds, seasonal plants, composting, and more. To learn more or register, click here. (Patch)
