Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:
- The Fulton County Board of Commissioners proposed a property tax increase for homeowners at the end of July. The plan, announced on Jul. 24, proposed increasing property taxes by 12.8 percent over the rollback millage rate. With the final public comment session held on Wednesday, commissioners heard from the public both for and against the proposed nearly 13 percent tax increase before making a final decision. - Yesterday, the Georgia Supreme Court removed suspended Judge Christian Coomer from the state Court of Appeals. In a unanimous decision, the justices upheld the recommendation of a state hearing panel which found Coomer’s misuse of campaign funds undermined public confidence. Wednesday’s ruling prohibits Coomer from being elected or appointed to any judicial office for seven years. (Capitol Beat)
- Down the road in Atlanta, multiple persons of interest are wanted for stealing cell phones from two metro Atlanta Xfinity stores. The burglaries happened on Tuesday morning, and the police are actively investigating the case. Anyone with information that leads to an arrest could receive a $2,000 reward. (11Alive.com WXIA)
