- The Cobb County Chamber and SelectCobb will be holding a seminar to set businesses up with guidelines on what the Cobb County and Marietta school systems are looking for in potential contracts. The program is set to feature a discussion between Cobb Co. Schools Assistant Director of Procurement Gary Blount, Marietta City Schools Chief Operating Officer Charles Gardner, and Executive Secretary Devlin Dennis, and will be held at the Cobb Chamber Jun. 8 and 9. - A Cobb County Police Department dog died in a hot car on the afternoon of Monday, Jun. 5, following the failure of the vehicle's air conditioning system. Sergeant Wayne Delk, a Cobb police spokesman, said, "This is a horrible incident and our investigators are continuing to gather information regarding the vehicle system failures that led to this tragedy." The police dog, K-9 Chase, was found unresponsive after 2:00 p.m. in a patrol car at Allatoona High School after officers returned from an active shooter training. (MDJOnline.com)
- The City of Smyrna has announced the summer open gym schedule for the Smyrna Community Center. On Mondays, the center is open from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for kids and teens under 17. Wednesday hours are 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for Family Nights. On Thursdays, the center is open from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for adults 18 and over. - Nearby Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center has chosen its new executive director - William "Bill" Haggett, who will take over towards the end of this month. Currently, Michael Pauken serves as the Performing Arts Center's Interim Executive Director, and Haggett is set to collaborate with Pauken until the end of a transition period in July.
