1. In nearby Atlanta, the 2023 Atlanta Sci-fi Film Festival recently announced its first International 48-Hour Sci-Tech Film Challenge, which will take place Aug. 25-27. During the competition, filmmakers will have 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film that includes a specific element of technology provided by the festival’s tech company partners. Registration for the competition is open until Friday, Aug. 11. (Metro Atlanta CEO)
2. Cobb County's annual First Responder 5K is coming up this Saturday, Aug. 5 at The Battery Atlanta. The family-friendly walk/run event — which will also feature first-responder vehicles, field games, and a performance from the Braves Heavy Hitters — will support the county's first responders through the Cobb County Public Safety Foundation. 3. On Monday night, a pedestrian was found dead after a hit-and-run incident at Floyd Road and Maran Lane in Cobb County. According to police, the incident occurred around 10:29 p.m., when the pedestrian was reportedly crossing Floyd Road outside of the marked crosswalk and was hit by an unknown vehicle.
