- In nearby Atlanta, the 2023 Atlanta Sci-fi Film Festival recently announced its first International 48-Hour Sci-Tech Film Challenge, which will take place Aug. 25-27. During the competition, filmmakers will have 48 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film that includes a specific element of technology provided by the festival’s tech company partners. Registration for the competition is open until Friday, Aug. 11. (Metro Atlanta CEO)
- Cobb County's annual First Responder 5K is coming up this Saturday, Aug. 5 at The Battery Atlanta. The family-friendly walk/run event — which will also feature first-responder vehicles, field games, and a performance from the Braves Heavy Hitters — will support the county's first responders through the Cobb County Public Safety Foundation. - On Monday night, a pedestrian was found dead after a hit-and-run incident at Floyd Road and Maran Lane in Cobb County. According to police, the incident occurred around 10:29 p.m., when the pedestrian was reportedly crossing Floyd Road outside of the marked crosswalk and was hit by an unknown vehicle.
