Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

1. The Before Slavery Museum will be hosting the Sankofa Festival this Sunday, Sep. 25 at Smyrna's Taylor-Brawner Park before it officially opens in Spring 2023. From 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., festival participants will have an opportunity to get a special preview of the museum. The museum itself is located in Cobb County near The Battery and Truist Park. 2. The Smyrna Public Library will be hosting a special Diwali Celebration on Oct. 24. The celebration will feature a festival lantern activity, traditional sand art, and henna hand art. The event will be from 4:00-5:00 p.m. (City of Smyrna)
3. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will be hosting two meetings to consider and vote on a proposed resolution. The meetings will be held on Oct. 11 at 9:00 a.m. and Oct. 25 at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of the resolution is to allow the county governing authorities to amend local laws where home rule authority is preempted.
