Smyrna City Council Approves Campbell Road Development

Smyrna City Council members approved the annexation and rezoning of about 24 acres on Campbell Road, set to be a residential development.

SMYRNA, GA — A divided Smyrna City Council approved the annexation and rezoning of about 24 acres on Campbell Road, which is slated to become a residential development with 144 townhomes and single-family homes, according to city documents.

The motion to annex and rezone this property, located at 2320 Campbell Road, was approved in a 4-3 vote at last week's city council meeting on Jan. 19. Council members Austin Wagner, Susan Wilkinson and Lewis Wheaton voted against the motion.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the meeting included almost an hour of public comment in regard to this agenda item. Most residents were not supportive of this development, which is spearheaded by Inline Communities LLC.

Residents who spoke against the development said the project will negatively affect the Spring Road corridor, which is already a busy road in the city, the MDJ reported. The development will be located within two miles of Truist Park and The Battery Atlanta, home of the Atlanta Braves.
