Smyrna High School Baseball Team Get Big Braves Surprise

SMYRNA, GA -- The Atlanta Braves, who open their first postseason birth since 2013, surprised a local high school baseball team with tickets to their first home playoff game in SunTrust Park. Bringing tickets, NL East championship t-shirts and hats, Braves relief pitcher Chad Sobotka presented the items to Campbell High School's baseball team. The Braves open the postseason on Thursday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

After three straight 90-loss seasons, the Braves posted a 90-72 season in 2018. Games one and two in the National League Division Series will be held Thursday and Friday at Dodger Stadium, with game three set at Suntrust Park on Sunday. If necessary, game four would be played at SunTrust Park next Monday, followed by game five, if necessary, back in LA.

The Braves' surprise gift to Campbell High baseball players was made on Monday, according to Channel 2.

The Braves went 2-5 against the Dodgers during the regular season. The Dodgers hit nine home runs while taking two of three from the Braves at Dodger Stadium in early June. They were positioned to complete a four-game sweep at SunTrust Park before Braves left-hander Sean Newcomb came within a strike of no-hitting them during the July 29 series finale.

Matt Burt, a Raleigh, NC-based graphic artist for Versus Reviews, has created artwork for all of the teams in this year's MLB playoffs, including the Braves. Each graphic has the names of the World Series championship players for the team, or the NL championship for the Brewers and Rockies, arranged to form the skyline of the team’s city. Underneath are the names of their 2018 40-man roster.
