Smyrna Police Uncover Drugs, Stolen Gun After Prostitution Sting at Smyrna Hotel

What would have been a routine prostitution sting for the Smyrna Police Department resulted in the recovery of a stolen firearm and an assortment of illegal drugs at a Smyrna hotel.

According to an arrest warrant, Amanda Lee Causey, 28, of Rome was charged with theft of a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and various drug charges.

The warrant also stated that Causey’s accomplice Eathan Kuykendall, 35, of Acworth, received three charges of possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances, giving false information to a police officer and felon in possession of a firearm.

Officer Michael Smith said investigators uncovered the drugs and firearms after they set up a sting operation based on a lead they discovered on www.backpage.com.

“We’re seeing lots of people throughout metro Atlanta are using it as a means to further their prostitution activities,” he said. “We found an individual who was offering sexual services for money online and they were going to meet at the Comfort Inn and Suites at 2800 Highlands Parkway.”

When police arrived at the hotel they found a woman in the parking lot matching the description of the woman from the website. Police confronted Causey and arrested her based on a warrant from another agency.

After police left the scene, hotel staff discovered a firearm while they were cleaning the room. When officers ran the serial number they discovered the gun was stolen from Dallas, Ga. Officers were waiting to obtain a search warrant for the room when Kuykendall arrived.

“It turns out he has a warrant out for his arrest as well,” Smith said. “We tied him to being a party to the crime. It wasn’t like he was John. He was working with her. He was not a potential customer.”

Smith said officers ultimately found approximately 43 grams of methamphetamine, several bottles of testosterone, a firearm, syringes, a knife, scales, Viagra and adult paraphernalia. Smith said hotel staff are not believed to be involved with the crime and that Smyrna police are rarely called to that location for crimes of this nature.

“There’s no indication that the hotel is involved in any of this activity,” he said. “They don’t want any of this activity there and they’re being as proactive as they can."

Causey and Kuykendall are being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.
