- A tragic accident in Smyrna resulted in the death of a 15-year-old who was ejected from a speeding car. The incident occurred late Saturday night on the East-West Connector at Creekside when an 18-year-old driver was traveling well above the 45-miles-per-hour speed limit. The car left the road, flipped over, and struck a tree when the driver attempted to navigate a curve, leading to the passenger's ejection and fatal injuries. The driver sustained serious injuries, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing, with authorities requesting any additional information from witnesses. (11 Alive)
- The Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration is participating in National Voter Registration Day on Sep. 19, with a Voter Registration Drive at their office from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This drive aims to ensure voter registration and preparation for the upcoming Nov. 7 Municipal General Election. Activities include onsite voter registration, voter identification cards, absentee ballot requests, and election worker recruitment. The event will also feature entertainment and an opportunity to dunk Cobb County Board of Elections and registration officials. Additionally, the board is organizing pop-up voter registration drives throughout the county to promote National Voter Registration Month. The final day to register for the Municipal General Election is Oct. 10. (Cobb County, GA)
- Construction is set to begin on repairing a sinkhole that emerged in Cobb County earlier in the week. Contractors anticipate that the repair process may take longer than initially expected, as they await the arrival of necessary materials, which is scheduled for Monday, Sep. 4. The sinkhole on Spring Hill Parkway was caused by the failure of a large metal pipe during heavy rain. Cobb County plans to replace the aging system with a three-pipe system under the road. Sinkholes have become a growing concern in the metro area, and the construction process for this sinkhole may take three to four weeks. (wsbradio.com)
