SunTrust Park to Have Kid-Friendly Area: Braves

'Hope and Will's Sandlot' is result of multiyear partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

SMYRNA, GA -- The Atlanta Braves' youngest fans will be able to play like the big boys, enjoying a host of sports activities at SunTrust Park, thanks to a new partnership between the ballclub and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

The accord means that the stadium will be the site of a play area called "Hope and Will's Sandlot," which will feature baseball-related entertainment, a zip line and climbing tower, the team announced this week.

"Braves games have always been a fantastic family outing and SunTrust Park will feature an even larger space for baseball-themed, kids' activities thanks to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta," Derek Schiller, Braves president, business said in a statement. "We are proud to continue our relationship with Children's and are honored to help support their wonderful mission."

And what's a ballpark without a kid-friendly batting cage? The sandlot will have that, too. Interactive games will also be on tap, along with plenty of food and merchandise, the team said.

"We are excited to continue our relationship with the Braves and to be a part of a new experience for families in Atlanta," Donna Hyland, Children's president and CEO said. "Children's and the Braves want to make a difference in the lives of families, making sure kids get to do what they do best-be kids. Serving others is a team effort and privilege. Children's and the Braves strive to bring about positive change and good health for generations of kids to come."

The tradition of children running the bases after Sunday games will resume, the Braves said.
