Jones Charged with Vehicular Homicide of Veteran Officer From Austell
The 22-year-old Chasity Jones faces 13 charges related to the death of Senior Atlanta Police Officer Gail Thomas.
A Fulton County Grand Jury indicted 22-year-old Chasity Jones of Stone Mountain on 13 charges related to the vehicular homicide of Senior Atlanta Police Officer Gail Thomas of Austell.
Thomas was struck and killed on Jan. 24 while helping a fellow officer at the Brookwood Interchange of Interstate 75/85 southbound. Jones, whose blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, was arrested at the scene.
Charges include: Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree (four counts), Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol (two counts), Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Reckless Driving, Failure to Obey Authorized Person Directing Traffic, Spencer Pass Law (two counts), Failure to Maintain Lane and Possession of Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage While Operating Vehicle.

The case will be assigned to a Fulton County Superior Court Judge and scheduled for trial. It is being prosecuted by the Major Case Unit.
