Update: Pawn Shop Burglars Fled Empty-handed

Burglars are on the run after smashing a truck into a shop and taking a gun case they did not realize was empty.

Police are looking for two suspects who rammed a pickup truck into a local pawn shop shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

WSB originally reported that the suspects stole weapons from the Stone Mountain Pawn Shop on Rockbridge Road, but Patch has learned they only got away with an empty gun case.

A store manager who asked that we not use his name told Patch one of the suspects smashed a glass display with a hammer and took what he thought was a case containing a gun. The manager said the guns are displayed on top of their respective cases during the day but are stored in a safe at night.

The men used a Dodge Ram to smash into the store front, leaving the damaged vehicle behind afterward. "Crazy, isn't it," the manager said. "They got fingerprints everywhere. I hope the police find something."

He thinks he knows who may be responsible but did not go into details. "The place has been robbed three times this year," he said. "Last time they came in through the roof. They got two of the guys."
