Flood Warning Issued For Gwinnett County

The National Weather Service told Patch the warning is in effect until just after midnight.

SUWANEE, GA — Residents in Gwinnett County are under a flood warning until just after midnight, said Carmen Hernandez, meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Peachtree City office.

Hernandez told Patch the warning largely affects areas near Suwanee Creek, which is expected to rise to 8.1 feet due to rain. The creek was at 8.07 feet around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday.

She said the creek flooding is in the minor stage, and there is no anticipation of water affecting roadways and triggering a flash flood warning.

Scattered showers are forecast Tuesday for all of metro Atlanta and surrounding counties, including: Bartow, Cherokee, Clarke, Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth, Gwinnett and Fulton counties.

The rainy weather is due to a "stationary front draped over north Georgia that's pumping moisture from the southwest into our area causing rain," Hernandez said.

Wind speeds are forecast to remain around 5 mph the remainder of Tuesday, she said.
