Take a Look at these Suwanee 'SculpTour' Displays

City's walking 'art encounter' will be on display through March 2017.

Suwanee, GA -- The fourth Suwanee SculpTour is under way and, organizers say, offering more to see than ever.

With its largest sculpture ever, most exhibits ever and most entries ever from local artists, the city’s roughly one-mile walking “art encounter” is on full display for the holidays and will be up through March 2017.

In all, 17 art pieces have been installed around Suwanee’s Town Center. Begun in 2011, SculpTour is a project of the city’s Public Arts Commission and is funded through private donations.

After taking the tour, visitors are encouraged to visit the SculpTour Web page and vote on their favorite installation. At the end of the tour, the city of Suwanee plans to add at least one piece to its permanent collection.

Weighing 2,700 pounds and standing 20 feet tall, “Dancer XX,” by New York sculptor Jack Howard-Potter, is the largest exhibit to ever grace the SculpTour.

This year’s tour also features works from six Georgia artists and includes a higher number of sculptures that draw inspiration from a variety of subjects like nature, friendship, love and loss.

The tour one of the most visible aspects of a concerted effort by Suwanee to establish itself as a destination for the arts.

“Public art has become such a part of the fabric of our community,” Public Arts Commission member Cherie Heringer said in a news release for an upcoming event that will take place in Town Center with the sculptures as a focal point.
