  1. As you're traveling around town this week, here's a reminder that paving will be taking place on Arnold Mill Road, east of Main Street. The work will be done in the overnight hours, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, and is expected to be completed tomorrow. The westbound lanes of Arnold Mill Road are open, but the eastbound lanes in the work area are closed. You can find maps at the link detailing the detours and road closings.   2. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office (CSO) has a scam alert for us. If a caller is claiming to be with the CSO and are calling about an "urgent legal matter," this is not true. The scammers may seem legitimate and may say that they're with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Citation Division. Don't call them back or give them any information. (CSO via Facebook)
  3. The Woodstock City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution to submit an application to the county for Community Development Block Grant funding. The proposed project would extend pedestrian pathways along Dupree Road. The $685,000 in federal funds would run a series of sidewalks and trails Market Street to the I-575 bridge and is promised to be "safe and accessible." (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  4. If you've been looking for a new pet, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter has you covered with free adoptions today. You can see available animals here, your new best friend will come with their spay or neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative and microchip already done.   • Trivia Night: Join your friends and neighbors at Reformation Brewery tonight for trivia. There are prizes for the top-three winners, the brewery address is 105 Elm St. (7 - 9 p.m.)
  • Murder Mystery Night - Murder on the Night Train: If you'd like to attend, please RSVP here. Check in with the front counter when you get to the arcade, your paid admission also includes unlimited gaming all night. There will be awards given for Best Dressed, Best Detective and Best Actor.   • Today is the day for the "Public Art" Downtown WDSTK Walking Tour. The tour will bring you to some of the unique pieces in the downtown area, and groups will depart from and return to the Reeves House Visual Arts Center, where you'll view the current exhibit.   • In celebration of National Parks and Recreation Month, the item for today on Cherokee Recreation & Parks' July calendar is a special offer.
