Cause Of I-575 Brush Fire Remains Unknown

The fire was reported Monday afternoon on the northbound side just north of Sixes Road in Holly Springs.

HOLLY SPRINGS, GA — A brush fire scorched roughly two football fields worth of grass along Interstate 575 Monday afternoon in Cherokee County, fire and emergency officials said.

Crews with Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire-Rescue Department responded to the fire around 2:45 p.m. Jan. 28 on the northbound side just north of the Sixes Road interchange.

Cherokee County Fire Captain Marc Liscio said about 200 yards of brush was burned by the fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene and had to close both northbound lanes of the interstate to adequately attack the fire.

Crews reopened one lane of the interstate, and the entire northbound stretch reopened by 3:20 p.m. once the fire was defeated. Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Service said there were no injuries, and the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
