CCSD Educators Explore Social Emotional Learning

Teachers learned how to maintain classroom environments where students can feel safe and build resilience

WOODSTOCK, GA — Teachers in the Cherokee County School District returned to work Monday, wrapping up first semester grades and preparing for students to return.

Many also engaged in professional learning opportunities to bolster their classroom techniques and strategies. More than 100 educators participated in a workshop on understanding Social Emotional Learning and its impact on student attitude, behavior, and achievement.

Teachers learned how to maintain a classroom environment where students can feel safe and build resilience, especially those students who have experienced trauma in their personal life and may be struggling.

This professional development initiative was provided by education organization ASCD and CCSD Student Services as part of a system-wide focus this year on improving the ability of school staff to recognize the signs of a student in crisis and offer help to that child.
