A Woodstock Middle School student is a regional essay contest winner!

Seventh-grader Winston Kang was named the Cherokee County overall winner by the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District for his entry into its 21st annual water essay contest.

For the contest this year, middle school students wrote a 300-500 word essay about the importance of clean, safe water and how individuals and communities can be more resilient. Winston’s winning essay is posted on the CCSD website at https://www.cherokeek12.net/News/wateressay22.

“Congratulations to Winston on his award-winning essay,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “I read his essay and appreciate how he wrote about this complex issue in a way that would connect with his peers. Thank you to his teachers, including STEM teacher Stephanie Vidrine, for educating our students about this critical issue.”

Winston, and the countywide winners from all other metro Atlanta counties, will be honored by the organization. The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower will recognize Winston at the School Board’s next meeting.
