  1. The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) will be updating the Metropolitan Transportation Plan, and we have the chance to provide our input. The survey responses will help in defining and planning ways to reduce carbon emissions, widen our options of transportation and "enhance our quality of life." The official ARC website can be found here, where you can take the survey, read about the plan, the update and ways to get involved. It will take around 15 minutes to complete and covers many topics, such as housing, education, crime, transportation technology and the environment. (Cherokee County via Facebook)
  2. The next Unwind Wednesday is coming up this week at Cherokee Veterans Park. The theme for the evening is "Trail Stories," and food trucks will be on hand to take care of dinner for the night. You'll also love the vendors and music and activities, the evening is free and runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Cherokee Veteran Park is located at 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton, be sure to bring your lawn chairs and blankets to get nice and comfortable. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
  3. It's been announced that a portion of the walkway will be closed at Cherokee Veterans Park and will remain closed for around two weeks. Beginning today, the walkway that goes behind the trees in back and past the storm pond will be closed. To detour around the area, you can take the Silver Star Nature Trail, you can find a map with marked detours at the link. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks via Facebook)
  4. Cats that roam are not always strays, and according to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter, it's a good idea to check with neighbors before turning a cat in to the shelter. According to the shelter, if a cat looks healthy and is friendly, they likely are being taken care of by someone. You could take a picture and post the image to social media or email chain with your neighbors, just in case the cat has run out of a home nearby or is an outdoor cat. As a note, the shelter offers free microchipping for county residents Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
