  1. If you've made plans for this Friday, you'll probably want to cancel them so you can take in the free Bryce Leatherwood concert at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater. Leatherwood, last year's winner of the music competition show "The Voice," was born and raised right here in town and graduated from Georgia Southern University. The concert is sponsored by Carriage Kia of Woodstock, and the music starts at 7:30 p.m. The opener will be Whiskey Rose Band, with their flavor of "homegrown country rock music." (Downtown Woodstock via Facebook)
  2. Word on the upcoming Scarecrow Invasion has been released through Downtown Woodstock's Facebook page. Registration will be opening up on Sept. 5 at 10 a.m., and if past years are any indication, there will likely be a long line formed well before the start time. Scarecrow spots are limited, so be sure to join in the queue at the Woodstock Visitors Center, found at 8588 Main St. If you'd like more information, further details are on the Visit Woodstock website here, including a map of scarecrow locations. 3. Woodstock Parks and Recreation offers introductory classes for different sports throughout the year, it's a great opportunity to learn something new, start a new hobby or spend quality time with family and friends. The "Discovering" series provides a nonintimidating, beginner's look at sports, and this week alone, you could learn the basics of pickleball at the "Discovering Pickleball" class on Wednesday evening or learn to paddleboard with Murph's Surf on Saturday morning at the "Discovering Paddleboarding" class. This Sunday, one that always draws the crowds, it's "Discovering Archery" at Dupree Park. You can read more about the offerings and sign up at the links provided. (Woodstock Parks and Recreation)
  4. Cherokee Recreation & Parks is looking to add some new team members to its crew. If you're interested in working with the department, openings include an aquatics coordinator, a part-time athletic supervisor and multiple front desk attendants. The benefits package is robust, offering paid vacation, a retirement plan, additional income opportunities, education opportunities and much more. You can see all county openings and apply here.
