- With the temperatures as high as they've been, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter has a timely message for the pet owners in town. While all pets are susceptible to the dangers of excessive heat, those with shorter snouts have even more difficulty regulating their internal temperatures. The portion of the nasal cavity that helps cool a dog down is greatly reduced in that of a short-muzzled pup, and brachycephalic dogs have reduced airflow into their lungs due to their small trachea and narrow nostrils, leaving them highly affected by excessive heat and exercise. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- A couple of the Family Fun Night events were canceled this summer because of storms in the area, but great news neighbors, the rained out "Downtown Campout" evening was rescheduled for this Thursday. There will be tons of activities, snacks and goodies on The Green and along Main and Chambers streets from 5 to 9 p.m., the movie "UP" is playing at 7 p.m. and there will also be themed drink and food specials around Downtown Woodstock. The scheduled happenings can be seen at the link, the evening is packed with fun for all ages. (Downtown Woodstock via Facebook)
- If you're in the market for a new job, maybe something a bit more rewarding than a standard 9-to-5, consider working in the school district. A career in education is not only fun, but education professionals are also integral to our community's future. The need for a Special Education - Deaf or Hard of Hearing teacher was posted in the August CCSD Newsletter, but the official district job listings include openings for many positions, including nutrition workers, paraprofessionals, database analyst, web developer, police officer and everything in between. You can view all open jobs and apply here. (CCSD Newsletter)
- The Board of Commissioners' regular meeting is tonight, and the agenda is packed with items for the board's consideration. Items of note include the adoption of the county's 2023 Comprehensive Plan and the setting of another moratorium for the I-575 and Sixes Road Interchange Area. You can find the full agenda here, and if you'll be speaking, the official Rules of Procedure are here - you can find the specific rules and standards for public comment on page 12.
