Hundreds Attend Annual MLK Unity Breakfast
The 21st annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Breakfast was held Jan. 19 at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center.

CANTON, GA — Hundreds of elected officials, residents and stakeholders attended the 21st annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast. This annual celebration of the Civil Rights leader's message was held Jan. 19 at the Northside Hospital Cherokee Conference Center in Canton.
Cynthia Middleton-McClure, the main organizer of the event, said the celebration attracted 500 guests. The 2019 installment "was a huge success, and we look forward to many more years of partnership" with the Cherokee County government, she added.
The event is co-hosted by Cherokee County and Allen Temple AME Church in Woodstock. Guests who were honored for their work in the community include:

- Bishop Charles Gearing, Jr., who was instrumental in getting a street named after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Canton
- Concerned Clergy of Cherokee County
- Reinhardt D.R.E.A.M.S.
The MLK Unity Award Winner was presented posthumously to Lillie Mae Brownlee, a Woodstock resident who passed away in November.
