- Two weeks after her disappearance from Gwinnett County, the Gwinnett County Police Department is still searching for Alpharetta resident Maury-Ange Martinez. The woman left the Gwinnett Jail on Aug. 21 in the afternoon, and she is thought to currently be in the area of Woodstock or Marietta. The missing woman is described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 100 pounds with brown hair and eyes. She also has several tattoos, one if which is a snake on her sternum and writing on both sides of her ribs. If you see Martinez, please call 9-1-1. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- The Boy Scouts of America - Atlanta Area Council recognized Lt. Michael Sims of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and 12 others for their work with area youth. Sims is currently the public information officer and public affairs specialist for the department, though he began his path as a 15-year-old in the Fire Explorer program. Among many other accolades received throughout his career, the award recipient is the current lead advisor for Explorer Post 469, Georgia advocate for Fire & Emergency Services Exploring, Fire & EMS chair for BSA Winterfest and Health & Safety committee member for the Atlanta Area Council. - This Saturday is the beginning of WDSTKtoberfest at Reformation Brewery downtown, and there's fun and great deals to be had. There are great deals to be had, and our mayor will be kicking off the event with a ceremonial, 10:30 a.m. keg tapping at Reformation during the Farm. Fresh. Market. On Sept. 23, the 80s cover band Guardians of the Jukebox will celebrate the best decade ever with a Glow Night on the Event Green at 7:30 p.m., vendors will be opening up shop at 6 p.m. On Sept. 30, there's a pub crawl, and I'll update you here in the newsletter once the date gets closer and more details are released.
