Here are the top stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- The Swallowtail Butterfly Garden at Woofstock Park is officially opening at 4:30 p.m. this Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The butterfly garden is the third of its kind created in the area, and it's located at the trailhead of the Noonday Creek and Towne Lake Pass trails. Created and maintained by Woodstock Parks for Pollinators and the Woodstock Parks and Recreation Butterfly Gardeners, the garden joins the Monarch Butterfly Garden at Dupree Park and the Gulf Fritillary Garden at the William G. Long Senior Center. There is a class being held afterwards, "Essential Gardening - Pollinator Gardening," if you'd like to attend, you can sign up here. (Woodstock Parks and Recreation)
- Unwind Wednesday is back this week with Cherokee Recreation & Parks' "Pup Stars Dog Show." Wednesday's festivities will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m., if you'd like to enter your dog, just bring them with you to Cherokee Veterans Park a bit early to sign them up. Be sure to give other dogs plenty of space and keep yours leashed at all times. There will also be food trucks, vendors, music and more, so you can make a whole evening of it. The park address is 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- If you haven't figured out a starting spot for the Star-Spangled Pub Crawl this Saturday, Reformation Brewery is a great option. The brewery will have live music at noon, and local artists will be set up on The Green. In celebration of Woodstock Arts and local, independent makers and music, there will be a special release of the brew "Create Vibrancy," with a portion of the proceeds going to support the nonprofit. (Reformation Brewery via Facebook)
- It's almost time for the next free concert in the Woodstock Summer Concert Series! On July 8, the Bruno Mars tribute Uptown Funk and Hughes Taylor will be on the Amphitheater stage. You can place your chairs at the venue starting at 6 a.m. on July 7 to save your spot — folding chairs, beach chairs or bag chairs are allowed, but tables, blankets, tarps and things that anchor into or cover the ground are not. You can find details on shuttles and parking at the link, the next concert in the series will be on Aug. 12, with the Van Halen tribute Completely Unchained and Guardians of the Jukebox.
