  1. The public input meeting for the future Hickory Flat Area Park is tomorrow evening at the Hickory Flat Gym, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cherokee Recreation & Parks will be sharing the proposed designs for the 40-acre park, created by the contracted design and planning company Lose Design, and our input on those plans will be considered. An online option will open up on Friday if we can't attend the meeting in person, and the project summary and conceptual draft will be posted for us to refer to. A link will be set up to view the plans and provide input here. (Cherokee County Communications Division)
  2. The Woodstock Fire Department is holding a hiring event this Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 225 Arnold Mill Road. Attendees will get to meet the fire chief and other members of the department and showcase their talents in person to hiring staff. If you'd like to interview, you'll need to bring a driver's license, resume and workout clothing for the physical portion of the hiring process. It would be a good idea to also bring along your social security card, birth certificate, high school and college diplomas, if applicable. You can find further details and the RSVP form at the link, and you can apply online here. (Woodstock Georgia Official Site)
  3. Great news for those that have always wanted to be a firefighter, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) is also looking to fill some spots on their team. Hired entry-level firefighters will enjoy some great perks through the position, and there are plenty of opportunities for career advancement and specialty training. The robust benefits package includes insurance, paid time off and a nice retirement plan. You can learn more and apply here. (CCFES via Facebook)
  4. A new exhibition at the Reeves House Visual Arts Center is opening this Thursday, with an opening-night reception that evening from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibit gives us a look into some of the rich Latin American culture here in the United Stages through artwork created by artists of Latin American descent. The "LatinX Voices" exhibit and opening-night reception are free and open to the public at 734 Reeves St. (Woodstock Arts)
  5. Cherokee County Senior Services has a wonderful program, "A Side of Books," that delivers reading materials straight to their senior customers. The program could use some help from us, they're looking for donations of gently used or new large-print books. If you have spares, please consider bringing them over to Senior Services at 1001 Univeter Road in Canton. If you can't make it during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, donations can be placed on the picnic table in the back of the building.
