Here are the top stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- It's finally time for the 39th Annual Riverfest! The event is taking place this Saturday and Sunday at Etowah River Park in Canton. The annual festival draws huge crowds each year and features arts and crafts vendors, music, food and treat trucks and a kids' area with games, bouncy houses, a petting zoo, a miniature train ride and more. There's always plenty of shade under the tents, where you can eat and watch the musical performances and it's a great place to pick up unique gifts for loved ones. (Service League of Cherokee County)
- We've got some of the most beautiful green spaces here in our county, and keeping it that way takes work. If you'd like to help, there's a Volunteer Trail Clean-up and Maintenance day coming up with Cherokee Recreation & Parks, it's a nice way to give back and enjoy the outdoors at the same time. The Oct. 7 clean-up day runs from 9 a.m. to noon, though the exact park hasn't been announced yet. The department will provide some tools, but if you have some hoes, rakes, shovels, loppers or trash pickers, please bring them along. You can register here, minors are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks via Facebook)
- There's still time to sign up as a participant or sponsor for the Woodstock Public Safety Foundation's 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Oct. 12. The "Luau on the Links" tournament will take place at the BridgeMill Athletic Club and will feature themed holes and prizes. Proceeds will go to the Woodstock Public Safety Foundation (WPSF) for community outreach, emergency aid and Shop with a Hero programs, as well as equipment, training and support. Fair warning, the event usually fills up quickly - you can sign up at the link. (WPSF Golf Tournament)
