  1. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking for help in locating a missing person. Mayra Esmeralda Elias Jimenez, 16, was last seen around midnight on Thursday on Oak Lane in Acworth. The missing female is described as 5 feet, 4 inches and 185 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. If you have any information, please reach out to the sheriff at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1, you can reference case SO23-011750. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
  2. The Board of Commissioners had a very busy meeting on Tuesday, with quite a few impactful decisions made. The 2023 Comprehensive Plan was approved unanimously, as was an amendment to the design services agreement held with Southeastern Engineering, Inc. for further design and environmental services for the intersection of Highway 92 at Trickum Road. The county and the City of Woodstock are working this project together, with the county handling the project management and project design costs and Cherokee County and Woodstock sharing the 20 percent federal match for right-of-way acquisition and construction. The entire list of highlights from the meeting can be found at the link. (Cherokee County Communications Division)
  3. A Woodstock man pled guilty to and was sentenced for his role in a fatal overdose in 2021. According to the district attorney, Michael Waters, 23, gave the victim and a friend a powdered substance, telling them it was Percocet. The next morning, 20-year-old Tally Power was found unresponsive. The death was attributed to the fentanyl and tramadol found in her system, and sadly, a 2020 case where Power's sister overdosed saw Waters as a suspect, though never charged. Waters will serve 15 years in prison, with 15 to follow on probation and in drug treatment. (Woodstock-Towne Lake Patch)
