- Woodstock was the subject of an article in Southern Living this week, highlighting some of what makes our beautiful city truly worth a visit. We love hiking here, and it shows in all the trails and locations we have to offer, including Olde Rope Mill Park and Gibbs Gardens, and we've got a multitude of biking trails for both leisure and sport. There are some great ideas for a nice little staycation here in town, check out the article in full to find your next local adventure. (Southern Living)
- A letter was sent out yesterday from the Cherokee County School District (CCSD) announcing the upcoming retirement of the Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower. With a long career in the public school system, Hightower has spent the better part of 38 years in the field, with 8 years as our superintendent. The retirement goes into effect on May 31, 2024, and in his letter, Hightower praised the entire school system, students and the community for our roles in the building of a bright future within our children and county. Thank you, Dr. Hightower, for everything you've done and continue to do for our county and our children. (CCSD News)
- A fight outside The Place on Parkside Lane last Saturday ended with a stabbing and three men in handcuffs. The incident took place at the bar just after midnight, when an unidentified male was escorted outside for unruly behavior. A fight broke out between the victim, a bar employee and two bar patrons, at which point Woodstock resident and bar employee Eric Armstrong reportedly stabbed the victim. Armstrong remains at the detention center without bond, but the two other men involved in the fight were arrested, given bond and released. No further information has been released about the victim.
