- A few traffic alerts came in yesterday from the Cherokee Sheriff's Office (CSO), and we've been advised to avoid Sugar Pike Road and the intersection of Lower Union Hill Road at Union Hill Road. Sugar Pike Road is closed in both directions at the Gantt Road and Landsdowne Drive intersections while utility lines are replaced due to storm damage. Down the road a bit, there's paving work going on at the intersection of Lower Union Hill Road and Union Hill Road. The work there has an Aug. 1 completion date, and the CSO suggests taking East Cherokee Drive as an alternate route in the meantime. (CSO via Facebook)
- Cherokee County Public Works has announced that starting today, East Cherokee Drive will be closed between Ball Ground Highway and Cumming Highway while railroad crossing repairs are made. Local traffic will be allowed, though the road will be shut down at the crossing. The detours are marked, and there's a map of those routes at the link. The rail work is expected to be finished up on Friday, if you have any questions, please call Cherokee County Public Works at 770-345-5842. (CSO via Facebook)
- If you've ever wondered about the creation and inspiration behind the art on display in the Reeves House Gallery, Woodstock Arts is holding an "Artist Talk" evening this week. At the free event on Thursday, artists Chris May, Maxine Hess and Chase King will be discussing the current "All the Fixin's" exhibit and their pieces within. The evening will start at 6:30 p.m., and the Reeves House is located at 734 Reeves St. (Woodstock Arts)
- The sound of Jazz Night at the Reeves House will drift through the downtown area this Friday, and the evening is free for all. Truly a summer evening well spent, have a seat at one of the tables or bring your own chairs, the music will sound from the back porch beginning at 6 p.m. The night is rain or shine, but there is a tent to use during inclement weather. The outdoor bar will have charcuterie boards, wine and beer available for purchase and there are coffee, drinks and snacks inside. (Woodstock Arts)
