- If you're going to Unwind Wednesday tonight at Cherokee Veterans Park, bring your library books with you because there'll be a Pop-Up Library at the event. The time couldn't be better to return any books you have laying around, the fine-free summer promotion at the library ends on July 31. After that date, you'll have to pay overdue fees for late returns. At the pop-up, you'll also be able to get a new card and borrow books, Cherokee Veterans Park can be found at 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
- Taking care of a pet can be tough sometimes, but if you're having a difficult time with the cost, convenience or training your pet requires, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter can help. The shelter has resources like a pet food pantry, training information and affordable medical care to help you keep your pet at home with you. If rehoming is ultimately necessary, the Adopt-a-Pet "Rehome" service offers a guided process that allows you to create a pet profile, review applications, safely meet potential adopters and complete the rehoming process in less stressful way for all involved. - The Woodstock Public Safety Foundation has released details on the upcoming 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held on Oct. 12 at the BridgeMill Athletic Club, the theme this year is "Luau on the Links." The proceeds from the event will be put towards the foundation's community outreach efforts, emergency aid for Woodstock public safety personnel, the Shop with a Hero program, equipment, training and support. You can read more about the tournament, sponsorship opportunities and player registration here. (Woodstock Public Safety Foundation via Facebook)
- A scam alert has been sounded by the county, and this scam comes by way of phone calls that, based on the caller's number and name, appear to be legitimate county staff. The caller will tell the victim that they will be arrested if they don't make a payment, usually requesting a pre-paid card or gift card, and the victims have been asked to provide information that could pave the way for identity theft and fraud. The court system will never ask for payment, a social security number, a credit card number or any other confidential information by phone — all official communication will be done through the mail.
