Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. In just one week, reaching the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline will be easier for Boise residents. July 16 marks the day the nation's new 988 number will immediately contact callers to assistance. CNN's Jacqueline Howard reports Idaho is one of 13 states that has already enacted legislation to fund and implement the change. The hotline will be available 24/7 with the federal government awarding $105 million in grant money to states to assist with the change. Calls to the new 988 number will automatically be redirected to the old 1-800-273-8255 (TALK). (CNN)
  2. A Boise man, already on parole for a previous drug conviction, is back in jail after a traffic stop on Thursday. KTVB-TV staff report Deven Sauve was arrested by Garden City Police after he was found with seven handguns (one confirmed stolen), 76 grams of methamphetamine, cocaine in rock and powder form, marijuana, fentanyl, psilocybin mushrooms and more than $7,000. (KTVB.com)
  3. The City of Boise is working to be carbon-neutral by 2050 and has plans now to make that happen. KIVI-TV's Geneva Zoltek speaks with Boise Mayor Lauren McLean discussing the city's "Climate Action" plan. The city is working towards the goal in a series of small steps and using $10 million in infrastructure investments. (Idaho News 6 Boise Twin Falls)
  4. Do you want a 120-unit apartment building in your neighborhood? Or a rock crushing plant next door to your local church? Perhaps a manure processing facility adjacent to your child's day care? Boise Patch is helping out the City of Boise in getting the word out on a series of hearings allowing residents to provide input on updating zoning ordinances. (Boise Patch)
  5. The Boise Daily informed you of a Boise High School student throwing his hat in for a seat on the school board a few weeks past. The Boise Weekly's Tracy Bringhurst sat down with Shiva Rajbhandari to discuss his reasons for running, the disconnect between the board and the students they serve, and the status of his campaign.
