Amazon Semi Crashes, Burns On I84

An early morning crash near Meridian translates to some customers not receiving their packages on time.

MERIDIAN, ID — Amazon customer service may be receiving a few more calls than normal after an early morning incident on Interstate 84 near Meridian.

Idaho State Police report on Friday morning, at approximately 1:24 A.M., troopers investigated a commercial-vehicle crash, eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 45, in Meridian.

Criswell Madziwa, 40, of San Bernadino, California, was travelling eastbound in a 2009 International Prostar semi-truck with an Amazon trailer attached. A tire blew, and Madziw's vehicle veered into the barrier, rupturing the fuel tank, catching the semi on fire, as well as igniting a small brush fire.

All eastbound lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 2.5 hours, and the right two lanes remained blocked for an additional 1.5 hours while crews investigated the crash and cleaned the roadway.

This crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
