Welcome to the Tuesday edition of the Boise Daily. We start today's daily with two of life's indulgences, beer and bacon, and a chance to combine the two. A former Boise resident crossed the finish line in 21st, and if you have some extra cash, a Mickey Mantle card could be yours. A new job could be your ticket to that baseball card, and a former Idaho legislator will not know his future on Thursday as scheduled.

  1. What better way to spend a day than with friends, bacon and beer? KIDO-AM's Nikki West announces the Bacon and Beer Festival returns to Boise after taking a pandemic hiatus. A ticket will provide you with almost a pound and a half of bacon and bacon dishes and vendors will be competing for awards for dishes made with bacon. Sept. 10 is the date and Expo Idaho will be the place. (kidotalkradio)
  2. Boise Patch updated followers on Matteo Jorgenson's ride in the Tour de France last week. With the multi-day race now completed, KTVB-TV staff update the Boise High School graduate wrapped up the Tour 21st out of 135 riders. During Stage 16, Jorgenson was involved in a crash requiring stitches and still finished fourth for the stage. (KTVB)
  3. Mark your calendar for Aug. 27 and break out that piggy bank. The Oregonian carries a story by Associated Press reporter Bobby Caina Calvan of an upcoming auction featuring a likely record-breaking trading card. On the block will be a 1952, near-perfect condition, Mickey Mantle baseball card. The card could break records as it is expected to exceed $10 million when the two-day auction wraps up. The current record is $6.6 million for a 1909 Honus Wagner card sold at auction one year ago. (oregonlive)

  5. A former state legislator, convicted of rape in April, will not face sentencing Thursday as scheduled. The Idaho Capital Sun's Kelcie Mosely-Morris reports "Fourth District Judge Michael Reardon granted a request Monday to delay sentencing on a felony rape charge against former Rep. Aaron von Ehlinger, pending his motion for a new trial or acquittal in the case." Ada County taxpayers have picked up the bill for von Ehlinger's request for trial transcripts, estimated at $2,773, after his attorney filed a motion for a new trial or acquittal following the jury trial and conviction.   • Negotiations continue between the City of Boise and the union representing local fire fighters. The talks will be live streamed Tuesday afternoon. (3 p.m.)
  • The Parks and Waterways Committee for Garden City will meet Tuesday. (4:30 p.m.)
  • The JUMP Jam and Jive Summer Concert series continues Tuesday with local bands performing. (6 p.m.)
  • Here is a chance to get out of the heat and win some prizes. Matlack's Boise hosts a cribbage tournament Tuesday evening. (6 p.m.)
