Welcome to the Thursday edition of the Boise Daily. We open today's news with a group urging members to become involved and remove children's books from local libraries. Your days of eating crepes at a Boise restaurant may soon come to an end and formalizing the Ada County budget for the upcoming year is next week. According to one group, Boise does not have the best restaurants in the state and one parent is raising a concern over activity on the Boise Greenbelt.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. "Captain Underpants" may soon fly out of a Meridian library if a watchdog group has their way. KTVB-TV's Andrew Baertlein reports an Idaho conservative group, the "Idaho Liberty Dogs", has identified the popular series of youth books and others as offensive. The group urges members to attend Meridian District Library meetings, asking for libraries remove books containing pornographic and LGBTQ content. (KTVB.com)
  2. Boise residents may soon need to find a new place for that family Sunday breakfast. BoiseDev editor Don Day writes a company has plans to remove the popular Elmers Restaurant at Capitol and Yale St and build apartments. The drawings show a total of 88 apartments spread between two buildings along with amenities and parking for 88 vehicles. On a personal note to this story, the loss of Elmers is the loss of a group of retired educators meeting for a meal, including my mother, now deceased. (boisedev.com)
  3. Ada County will formally adopt the FY23 budget on Tuesday, August 16. Boise Patch has the statement issued by the county regarding the budget, the decision not to raise property taxes, the emphasis on personnel costs and the use of growth paying for itself. (Boise Patch)
  4. According to one recent study, Boise restaurants need to step up to catch...Twin Falls. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart reports the news and education site “MediaFeed” recently released their opinion of the “The Greatest Food City in Every State”. Using a number of different criteria including costs of meals, number of restaurants, number of grocery stores and others, Twin Falls was rated 26% higher than any other city in the state. (LiteOnline.com)
  5. Very few things in life are more relaxing than a leisurely stroll along the Boise Greenbelt. However, as more users crowd on the paved pathway, problems arise. CBS2 reporter Ariana Pyper carries on Boise mother's concern after her son was struck by a bicyclist while out on a walk. With the exception of some bumps and bruises, the 7-year-old was not seriously injured. (idahonews)
