Good morning, everybody! It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily — here to tell you all the most important things happening in the community today. Here goes.

Welcome to the Sunday edition of the Boise Daily. Discover what all that smoke was rolling into Boise and the attorneys for Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell want some clarification on the charges the two defendants face. If you do not meet a number of criteria, Idaho Republicans say you are not welcome in their primary and the city has released some money out to neighborhood projects. Finally, we introduce a house where you truly can tell the kids to "start playing ball in the house".

Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. The smoke was clearly visible from Boise as a range fire burned near the Black's Creek Public Shooting Range Friday evening. KTVB-TV staff report the Bureau of Land Management estimated the Blacks Fire at 1,200 acres with the cause unknown. Crews were expected to have the fire controlled by late Saturday evening. (KTVB.com)
  2. As the Boise Daily has done in the past, we return to the East Idaho News for an update on the Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow Daybell cases. Kaitlyn Hart reports defense attorneys for Lori have asked the court clarify language in the grand jury indictment. The attorneys argue that due to the wording of the indictment, a jury could become confused. Remember Boise, this trial and the national media attention is coming our way Jan. 9, 2023. 3. If you are not a registered Republican and meet a number of criteria, do not plan on voting in the next primary. The Idaho Capital Sun's Kelcie Mosely-Morris is in Twin Falls with the Idaho Republican Party Convention as delegates voted in favor of a rule that would disqualify certain voters from voting in the party’s primaries. (idahocapitalsun)
  4. Boise Patch and the City of Boise announce the City of Boise's 2023 Neighborhood Investment Program recipients. Nine projects will share $318,765 including a new skate spot at Ivywild Park, signage that recognizes the unique character of our neighborhoods, and amenities that will increase safety and connectivity in the City of Boise. (Boise Patch)
  5. For this next story, I can personally confirm the validity of the information as I visited this home years ago. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart writes a home is for sale on Five Mile and the residence comes complete with an indoor full size basketball court. The house was not built by a retired NBA star, but is the former Five Mile School House which was built in 1903. (liteonline)

Today in Boise:

  • Every Sunday, the Boise Depot is open for free tours. The building was open in 1925. (11 a.m.)
  • The Payette Brewing Company holds Family Fun in the Sun-Day with hands-on activities, crafts, games, music, food, and over 15 vendors. (11 a.m.)
  • The Wreaths Across America Mobile Education Exhibit will be in valley for the first time ever Sunday. The museum on wheels is free to the community to visit and helps honor local veterans. (11 a.m.)

From my notebook:

  • Boise Fire Department: "Late last night Boise Fire responded to a propane gas leak on W. Bumblebee Dr. As our Hazmat team was performing a flaring operation to empty the leaking container, a strap gave away causing the propane cylinder to slip in the grass." (Boise Fire Department via Facebook)
  • Zoo Boise: "We are excited to launch an Adaptive ZooTeen Program! This three-day program (July 26-28) will provide an opportunity for neurodivergent teens to learn about the ZooTeen Program." (Zoo Boise via Facebook)
  • Boise Parks and Recreation: "Jumping into the weekend. Stay cool, Boise!" (Boise Parks and Recreation via Instagram)
  • Boise Rock School: "This week’s Girls Rock Camp was amazing! HUGE shoutout to @trottergia and @jennsutkowski for guest teaching this week and inspiring the next generation of rockers to use their music as a powerful tool for connection." (Boise Rock School via Instagram)
  • Boise State Public Radio: "Downtown YMCA, Boise City Hall and the public library are all designated cooling sites that offer air conditioning, water and a place to escape the sun during the day." (Boise State Public Radio via Facebook)
  • Boise State Public Radio: "“The president needs to stop looking for excuses and start focusing on the right kinds of policies,” Crapo said." (Boise State Public Radio via Facebook)

Now you're in the loop and ready to head out the door on this Sunday. I'll see you soon!
