Here are the top stories in Boise today:
- The prosecution continued Tuesday in the Lori Vallow Daybell trial being held in Boise. EastIdahoNews reporter Nate Eaton continues with updates direct from the trial. Tuesday saw Rexburg Detective Ray Hermosillo taking the stand in the morning. The detective testifies of a search warrant conducted on Vallow Daybell's apartment and a storage unit. During the search of the unit, gun silencers were found. He also testifies regarding a search warrant conducted at a condo in Hawaii. On the stand after a lunch break, Hermosillo recounts a search of Chad Daybell's property back in Idaho where bodies were found. Due to the smell of burnt, decomposing flesh, the detective said law enforcement took turns digging. Vallow Daybell's attorneys asked she be excused from the afternoon session after viewing the morning photos of the crime scene — the judge denies the request and orders her back into the courtroom. During an autopsy of JJ Vallow, he was found "in red pajamas. He had a white plastic bag around his head, several layers of duct tape from his chin to his forehead area, his arms were duct taped with several layers of duct taped. His arms were folded across his chest. His feet were also duct taped and bound. He had a white and blue child’s blanket placed on top of him.” (eastidahonews)
- Do you miss eating at Texas De Brazil? Or grabbing breakfast at the old Dutch Goose? Or wandering the aisles of Bed, Bath & Beyond? We are just starting April of 2023, but KIDO-AM's Michelle Heart looks at eight businesses in Boise that have already closed their doors for good. (KIDO Talk Radio)
- Boise's Albertsons sold more groceries in the recently completed fourth quarter but saw its margins fall. BoiseDev editor Don Day reports our local grocer is still attempting to be purchased by Kroger Co. For the quarter, Albertsons reported sales of $18.3 billion but saw decreased profits. - The Boise River is rising, and the warnings are going out. CBS2 news staff reports users of paths along the river are urged to stay out of the Boise River by the Star Road Bridge and along the Star River Walk. Warnings are also going out to pet owners to keep pets out of the river due to high flows and dangerous currents. (Idaho News)
- A Boise School Board member has apologized and faces sanctions for a tweet directed towards Gov. Brad Little. KTVB-TV staff report board member Shiva Rajbhandari apologized to the other board members in executive session. He will not be allowed to participate in any graduation ceremonies as a Trustee and will step down from the district's Governance Committee. (KTVB.com)
