🌱 Bogus Happier Hour + Candidates Dropping + Life Sentence Issued

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Wednesday will be all about the Boise Highlanders, the oldest and largest pipe band in Idaho, established in 1961. July 27 is National Bagpipe Day. You love them in parades and no, you can't look underneath their kilts.

Hi all. It's me, John Braese, your host of the Boise Daily. Let's get this day started off right, with a quick guide to the most important things happening around town...

Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the Boise Daily. Our local recreation mecca wants you to come up on the hill and enjoy some mountain biking. A Meridian woman has been sentenced in the death of her child, and candidates continue to drop out of the running for the Boise School Board. Blaze would like to be a member of your family and if you are upset about gas prices, you will be furious after reading our last story.

Here are the top stories today in Boise:

  1. A new type of "happier hour" is available, one that won't leave you with a hangover. KIVI-TV's Meredith Spelbring writes Bogus Basin is offering reduced prices on summer activities from 3-7 p.m. during the weekdays. The recreation center also is starting up Bogus Basin Bike School, an opportunity for both private and group sessions for mountain bike enthusiasts of all abilities. (kivitv)
  2. A 28-year-old Meridian woman will spend at least the next 18 years in prison for her actions in the death of her 2-month-old son. KTVB-TV staff report Danielle Radue was sentenced to life imprisonment for the first-degree murder of her son. The infant died in May 2020 after he was found with severe injuries, including a skull fracture and injury to the brain. Radue will not be eligible for parole until she is 46 years of age. (KTVB)
  3. And then there were 13. IdahoEdNews reporter Kevin Richert reports a fifth candidate for the Boise School Board has withdrawn from the upcoming Sept. 6 election, leaving 13 candidates for the five seats. All five candidates choosing now not to run are members of a Boise church, The Well. You can learn more about the remaining candidates on Aug. 9 as Idaho EdNews and Boise Metro Chamber of Commerce are partnering for recorded forums on the candidates to be carried on multiple social media sites. If you are more inclined to meet in-person, a reception will be held for the candidates on Aug. 23. (idahoednews)
  4. Blaze would love to wait for you to let him out into the backyard. The American Staffordshire terrier is just one of the pets looking for a new family as listed this week by Boise Patch. Across the nation, only about half of all shelter pets are adopted out to new owners. (Boise Patch)
  5. For every gallon of that expensive gas going into your vehicle, the retailer is making a record profit of 67 cents per gallon (if you own a Suburban, do the math). BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel reports Idaho gasoline retailers are making record profits and there is not a thing the Idaho Attorney General's office can do. Due to the state having no emergency declaration in place and new legislation in place originally introduced by the Idaho Petroleum Marketers & Convenience Store Association, the state AG's office is powerless. In November 2020, Maverick, Stinker Stores and Jacksons paid a $1.5 million settlement after it was found the retailers had charged “excessive and exorbitant prices” for gas. (boisedev)
