Today's Boise Briefing looks at the signs of spring. In addition to all the little ducklings and goslings seen around town, coyote pups and mothers are showing up in the local foothills. Spring is the time to get outside and build, but be warned of lumber prices before starting the project. The state and federal governments are not seeing eye to eye on gun legislation and a fixture at the Boise Zoo is no more. Grab these and other stories daily on Boise Patch.

1. For those hiking the Boise foothills, spring translates to pup season for the coyote population. As reported by idahonews.com, a number of coyotes have been seen with many adults with pups. Hikers are encouraged to keep dogs leashed as mothers are highly protective.

2. Looking to purchase a new home to do a little home repair? Lumbers prices have exploded per an aticle by BoiseDev and consumers should brace for sticker shock when buying that 2X4.

4. A favorite at the Boise Zoo, a female lion by the name of Obidiah, is dead after being put down by zoo staff. KTVB-TV takes a look at the female leader clan.
