Here are the top three stories in Boise today:

  1. Colin Nash, a Boise City Council member and Democratic legislator, is running to keep his seat on the council and plans to leave the Idaho Legislature if reelected. Nash aims to address the city's housing crisis, invest in public transit and parks, and tackle pay disparities within the Boise Police Department. He supports Mayor Lauren McLean's reelection and emphasizes the need for accountability and investments that align with the city's values, such as addressing racism within the police force and ensuring fair compensation for supervisors. (BoiseDev)
  2. The AF Dance Fam Crew, a group of dancers from the Treasure Valley, has qualified for the "World of Dance" championships after auditioning and receiving a golden ticket. Comprising of dancers aged 13 to 18, they will represent Idaho and compete against teams from the U.S. and over 30 countries internationally. Despite the nerve-wracking audition experience, the dancers' hard work and dedication have paid off, and they are excited to showcase their skills on the international stage. (KTVB 7)
  3. The annual Crime in Idaho report released by the Idaho State Police indicates an overall decrease in crime statewide in 2022 compared to the previous year, but an increase in human trafficking, hate crimes, and certain violent crimes, including homicide. While the number of reported crime incidents dropped by 4.4 percent, violent crimes increased by 8.8 percent, with aggravated assaults rising by nearly 15 percent. Homicides reached a five-year high with 51 reported cases in the state. Additionally, the report highlighted a significant increase in human trafficking incidents and a slight increase in hate crimes, with intimidation or assault being the most common types of hate crimes reported.
