Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- As followers of the Boise Daily read this story, this article is not a history piece. The Boise Daily fully realizes this same story was published in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and every decade since. KTVB-TV carries a story by Idaho Press reporter Teddy Feinberg of organizations calling for a crackdown on the downtown street cruise on Friday and Saturday nights. A town hall is scheduled on Aug. 31 after the Boise Police Department executed a meter hooding effort to break “gathering patterns.” Those urging the crackdown complain of noise and safety concerns in the area. For long-time Boise residents, this article brings back fond memories of being pulled over in the Buttrey's parking lot for running straight pipes on a '72 GTO and being told to "get home now." Can it be Snapchat will replace the cruise for a Boise High School student finding a homecoming date with a Borah High School student? (ktvb)
- The Boise Police Department is asking the public's assistance in finding a cyclist who exposed himself to a child. The Boise Daily passes on information of the Aug. 5 incident near N. Avenger Lane. A possible photo of the man is included in the story along with a description and methods to contact investigators. (Boise Daily)
- Boise's own Idaho Shakespeare Festival first entertained theater lovers starting in 1977. BoiseDev carries an excerpt from the forthcoming book "Boise: City of Trees" highlighting how a small group of thespians grew an original idea into a now 770-seat amphitheater with sold out shows now a common happening. (boisedev.com)
- In an average day in Idaho, 180 people move into the Gem State while 137 people pack up and make the decision to leave Idaho according to Idaho Capital Sun's Audrey Dutton. Idaho's population stands at 1.84 million with half of those moving to the state in the past decade. Dutton looks at the figures from a number of different sources on where Idahoans are originating and where are our local moving vans headed. (idahocapitalsun)
- Good news for Boise drivers as the average price of gasoline fell 6.1 cents last week as reported by CBS2 news staff. The average price per gallon for Boise gas stands at $4.71 per gallon while the average across the state is $4.62 per gallon. (idahonews)
