Here are the top stories in Boise today:

  1. A man is dead after he was found unresponsive in Quinn's Pond in Boise. KTVB-TV staff report bystanders pulled the man out of the water and starting life-saving measures. The man's name and cause of death have not been released, but he may have suffered a cardiac-related issue. (KTVB.com)
  2. A number of students are heading off to college with a little less stress regarding expenses. Boise Patch announces the local winners of National Merit Scholarships. Included in the list are students from Timberline High School and Boise High School in Boise and Timberline High School, Renaissance High School and Cole Valley High School in Meridian. (Boise Patch)
  3. We are proud to announce a new contributor to the Boise Daily. Some of you may recall the debacle involving the North End restaurant Hyde House. The restaurant closed without notice, leaving many employees without past paychecks and hitting social media with horror stories. From Boise's Marissa introduces a new face in the restaurant business ready to take over the old location and opening Apericina. Take a read of Danielle Christine's life including growing up in Wallace, Idaho, living in a yoga retreat in Nicaragua, having a heart attack at 26 years of age, launching a business of chef-prepared meals delivered to your door and now, opening the doors of a restaurant in the North End. (fromboise)
  4. There remains one less place to purchase antiques for Boise residents. BoiseDev's Morgan McDonough reports the Antique Mall remains closed after the adjacent building, the old Reel Theater, collapsed. Longtime residents of Boise may recall pushing large, flat carts down the aisles of Waremart, an early version of Winco at the location. The building later became a theater in the mid-1990s, remaining open before becoming a victim to the pandemic in January. The Antique Mall announced it is hoping to reopen in the next few weeks. 5. Idaho may be known for potatoes, but for 2022, there will be fewer. The Idaho Farm Bureau's Sean Ellis writes Idaho farmers planted 25,000 fewer acres of Idaho's namesake, an 8 percent decrease from 2021. Drought, high upfront costs and problems obtaining seed are cited as possible causes. Even with the drop, Idaho remains as the No. 1 potato-producing state in the nation. (idahofb)
