Here are the top stories today in Boise:
- Two transgender women have filed a lawsuit against the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. KTVB-TV's Alexandra Duggan reports the two claim the Idaho department has "indefinitely and unreasonably delaying prior authorization of genital reconstruction surgery and coverage determinations for transgender Idaho Medicaid recipients." Both plaintiffs were diagnosed with gender dysphoria, and that their doctors recommended gender reassignment surgery to alleviate it. The lawsuit claims 17 months have passed since one of the plaintiffs requested surgery without Health and Welfare making a final decision on the request. (KTVB.com)
- The cost of purchasing a home in both Ada and Canyon counties is falling and fewer homes are currently selling than any year since 2015. BoiseDev editor Don Day reports the median price of a home in Ada County fell to $540,000 in September — a drop of 4.4 percent from August, and the fourth straight months of declines. The median price has fallen 10.3 percent from the high in May. (boisedev.com)
- Boise Patch is once again honored to provide a listing of local dogs and cats available for adoption at Boise area animal shelters. Take your first look at Bogart, a Schnauzer up for adoption right here locally. Bogart and others are looking for a home just like yours. (Boise Patch)
- Your neighbors have spoken and overwhelmingly want to build and renovate schools to handle continued enrollment growth. IdahoEdNews reporter Devin Bodkin reports a recent survey of 10,000 West Ada District patrons showed over 71 percent of respondents named “New Construction” and “Renovations and Additions to Existing Schools” as their top choices on a question that allowed patrons to select two of four options. - It is always interesting to look back at life through photos: old pictures of the kids, of yourself growing up, of homes lived in long ago. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart takes a step back to just 15 years ago and shows how much Boise has changed in the area around the mall. Ever attend a movie at the Reel Theater? Eat wings at Hooters? Grab a book at Borders? Take the family shopping at Mervyn's? Purchase tools at Sears or a new television at Circuit City? (liteonline)
