  1. Old timers in Boise will recall taking your ticket after a race to cash in your winnings at the Turf Club located at Expo Idaho. BoiseDev senior reporter Margaret Carmel writes a proposal from a Las Vegas-based company to lease the mothballed Turf Club at Expo Idaho for off-track betting this summer has seen no action from the Ada County Commissioners. Midnight Racing, owned by Eric Nelson, operates 15 off-track betting facilities throughout Wyoming and wanted to add the Boise site. (boisedev.com)
  2. Boise kids can lace up those running shoes and don those running shorts as the YMCA Harrison Classic Kids Run is scheduled for Sunday. CBS2 news staff reports this is the third year race organizers are partnering with IncludeAbility Inc., a Boise-based charity that promotes the inclusion of children with physical and intellectual disabilities into mainstream events.   3. A former director of the City of Boise's Office of Police Oversight sat down with KTVB-TV's Alexandra Duggan to discuss issues with the recent resignation of Boise's police chief. Natalie Camacho Mendoza left employment with the city in 2015 after a change in the office's duties. Emails now show police staff went to the city's Human Resources department with concerns regarding the chief, but an investigation was denied. The employee was directed to report concerns to BPD's internal affairs, a department overseen by the chief. In addition, members of the Boise City Council were not informed of the chief's resignation, instead learning about it from news sources on the day it occurred. (KTVB.com)
  4. Boise Patch and Ada County is pleased to get the word out October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In Boise, there is assistance for those experiencing domestic violence including the Faces of Hope Victim Center and the Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA). You can also learn more about Ada County’s Domestic Violence Court including information on Protection Orders, No Contact Orders, Victim’s Compensation and more. (Boise Patch)
  5. A new report is one that will cause discussions and arguments in Boise households. According to byte.com, the most popular Halloween candy for Idaho is... candy corn. Idaho joined Oregon and Utah in picking candy corn as the one trick-or-treaters are looking for as the door opens at the neighbors. The report also cites candy corn as the most controversial treat. More than one out of three (34 percent) Americans hate it, and a little more than one out of five (22 percent) love it. The other 44 percent are indifferent. (byte.com)
