The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Boise.

Hello all. I'm back in your inbox this summer morning to walk you through all the most important things happening these days in town. Here we go...
You made it through the week and here is your Friday edition of the Boise Daily. We start this last day of the work week with a discussion with the Boise Police Department chief. Some Boise high school students are heading for further education with some extra cash, and if you have some time to spare, you could decide a few zoning issues. Some newcomers to Boise discuss what shocked them, and we carry a warning of locking your pooch inside a hot vehicle.
Question: Do you plan on tubing the Boise River this summer?

Here are the top stories in Boise today:
- Boise is changing, that is for sure. Boise State Public Radio's George Prentice interviews Boise Police Chief Ryan Lee and his department's planning for "big city" challenges facing the capital city. Lee discusses the importance of tips from citizens, how the department is handling high-profile events and a star of the department, the Boise’s School Resource Officer program, one of the oldest such programs in the nation. (Boise State Public Radio)
- Forty students from around the state, including those from Boise schools, gathered at the state capital to receive the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship. The Idaho Capital Sun's Clark Corbin joined the celebration as the students' received scholarships after more than 3,500 applicants were submitted. The story includes a complete listing of all the recipients. (idahocapitalsun)
- Boise Patch and Ada County are encouraging you to become involved. Positions are now open on the Ada County Planning and Zoning Commission for a three-year term. Obviously, you must live in the county and agree to meet once or twice per month on Thursday evenings. Boise Patch provides the information on how to apply both online and by picking up an application. (Boise Patch)
- This is a two-for-one story for Boise Daily readers. Very white. Very hot. The sugar plant smells. A really clean downtown and not really that much snow. LITE-FM's Michelle Heart asked newcomers to Boise the 10 largest shocks moving into the capital city. In this same article, Heart provides you a way to beat the heat. A drive of two hours from Boise will place you in a cave at a frigid 23-33 degrees year around. Heart provides the history of the Shoshone Ice Caves and all the information you need to get out of Boise and be cool. With 100 degrees coming the beginning of next week, pack your winter coat and gloves for the visit. (107.9 LITE FM)
- Here is another reminder of our summer heat. CBS2 news staff report a Meridian dog is dead after being locked inside a hot truck. Even with windows cracked, the temperature inside the vehicle reached 147 degrees. The owner of the dog now faces prosecution. (Idaho News)

Are you a Boise resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?
Bloomberg recently asked experts where they’d invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.
Thinking you can’t afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.
Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here’s why:
- Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
- Contemporary art historically returns 23.2 percent when inflation is >3 percent
- Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164 percent (1995-2021)
To learn more, visit Masterworks.io, where Boise Daily readers can skip the waitlist.
